[01:29.980 --> 01:36.640]  That left the masses—I'm going to use that word a lot today—that left the masses completely

[02:11.940 --> 02:18.620]  here in the U.S.—this so enraged the establishment, the pope, that the pope literally put out
[02:18.620 --> 02:23.820]  a contract on Gutenberg, and Gutenberg had to flee his home country of Germany and go
[02:23.820 --> 02:27.180]  to England, where he was protected by the king.
[02:27.180 --> 02:30.620]  From there, he set about creating Bibles in various languages.
[02:30.620 --> 02:35.740]  Now, there was a profound effect on that, because if we go from the mid-1500s when Gutenberg
[02:35.740 --> 02:40.820]  started putting out these Bibles in people's native tongue, then we have the early 16th
[02:40.820 --> 02:43.260]  century and Martin Luther and the Reformation.
[02:43.260 --> 02:49.980]  Now, I contend that absent Bibles that people could actually read, the Reformation could
[02:49.980 --> 02:57.260]  have gone nowhere, because the masses that had to get behind Martin Luther for the Reformation
[02:57.260 --> 03:01.860]  to go anywhere, how would that have happened if people were still 100% ignorant because
[03:01.860 --> 03:05.100]  they didn't speak Latin, and the only people who could tell them what was in the Bible
